Joe Moreno did fuck all during the first two and a half years before negotiations going so far as to prevent members of his Board from making in-depth preparations or even allowing himself to be ordered to do so by members of his Board. How would I know? I was there and so were members of the RESCG, United slate. Fighting to get the Union to do what it promised.
Then Joe rode the solidarity that derived from the RESCG Facebook to get us movement higher than we have seen in decades only to fumble it before blaming it on the National leadership and now the membership. His and his cronies’ actions are borderline criminal. You will see that the 65% ask was a lie, giving the company Unfair Labor Practice leverage over the Union and causing it to have to bring objectively worse deals back. This entire negotiation has been a campaign stop for him. It has become clear that Joe’s lack of preparation has placed us firmly between a strike or a worse deal— one where the off hours distribution shift fight dies and the pay grade bumps for 1100 people are gone without a real fight from real leadership.
The plan was to take the roughly 396 proposals that YOU and we submitted to the Local and slam them on the table in front of the company. There was no way the company could have kept up. They would have been backed into a corner and the membership’s solidarity would have won the day.
Instead, Joe Moreno took his wife on a cruise for their 25th anniversary and Belinda Moreno was MIA as negotiations were about to start. This left Mike Cormode, who is not even a member of our Negotiations Committees, at the helm of the Joint Steering Committee, allowing the other Unions to reduce our proposals to only around 75.
Contact Mike Cormode and ask him about those few days he watched the other locals tear down our plan while Joe was on a cruise mere days before negotiations started. While you are at the UWUA 132 website looking for Mike’s contact information, take a look at the team that is listed there versus who Joe is running for office with on his slate. The majority of his slate are his personal insiders and if they win, the union goes dark again.

Even late into negotiations, instead of informing the CPUC that a strike may occur and that the membership is demanding a better contract, he is seen in filings at the CPUC attacking double-time and branch office closures.
We need an administration that is going to fight for us at the CPUC, not fight the company on any front it can just because it can. Bill Gilbertson and the RESCG, UNITED slate has committed to making our presence known at the CPUC and state houses.
