Who we are
For over a decade a small group of members attempted to improve everyone’s lives at SCG utilizing the same channels and processes that they have for years. They relied on a loose, decentralized network of members and Union representatives to effectuate small changes that would have lasting impacts.
Over the last few decades the members have seen officers embroiled in controversy and scandal with at least one going to Federal prison and another moving straight from President of the largest local to head of an entire department at the company.
It was then, in 2021, that Alanis could no longer confine himself to meek or tangential efforts. The system was beyond repair and needed to be fully replaced. He brought together some of the officers that had helped him all along.
He started with a small Facebook group that has since grown into over 1,500 members, then helped build a slate that promised to clean house, and has since grown into a leader in the movement.
The powers above us could not allow their status quo to be threatened and took over the Local via a specious trusteeship. After that trusteeship the President of A Clean Slate seemingly turned on his promises, the Local, and its members. A few officers would resign or take bids outside of the area they were allowed to be officer over. Others stayed on, trying to fight for what we believed in, what we promised, but Joe Moreno and Mike Cormode ensured the banishment of the opposition leader, their biggest impediment to unbridled power. The National leadership unanimously affirmed and secured their status quo.
Undeterred, we have pushed forward, continuing the mission of building worker power and building solidarity.
What is clear to more and more everyday is that the old ways are dying and that, if we are going to survive, we need to thrive. Being here with us is the first step in leaving behind those stuck in the old ways and ensuring the middle class has power into the future.
